Hello Science, Reason, and Irish for a day (or more), Inclined Readers,
I’m going to go much lighter this week. Last week was loaded with a lot of links and content.
I missed it last week but Feb 11 it was International Day of Women and Girls in Science. I personally think
Hello Supporters of Science and Reason Some recent news has sent me down a new path of questioning what we think we know, how we think we should react and why we should. Can Intellectual Humility Save Us from O
Hello Fans and Supporters of Science and Reason! Here’s to The Most Beautiful Science of the Year. I realize that “new year” was over a month ago but consider the
Hello Science Fans, I hope that you have thought about whether anti-science is worth considering or worrying about. From battles over the efficacy and safety of vaccinations, to dangerous or useless medical practices, to regulations not based on science, that can lead to injury or death there are a lot of challenges to getting through the day, week, month, or year. May I suggest... The Deadly Rise of Anti-Science: A Scientist's Warning. Here's a more specific take on it...
Hello and a belated Happy Trip Around the Sun, I was thinking how much I was looking forward to the end of '23 and having a fresh start on a new year. Well that didn't bring a noticeable change in how things look around the world. Many innocent people are dying at the hands of nature or at the hands of other people. The horror of the capacity of humans to do so much harm and inflict so much suffering on others will never do anything but bring sorrow to me. I've been away from the keyboard and the SciSchmooze for for longer than usual and there is so much to share. The coming year will be full of new discoveries, challenges, and achievements. One thing about science is it is never really done. It seems that science and technology (applied science) never rest and constantly offer new insights and solutions to questions and problems. They often bring new qu
Greetings Science Fans, Acceptors, and Supporters! As we are nearing the winter solstice there are a lot of really fun and inspirational things going on. I think an interesting social challenge we are facing in so many areas in and out of science is reflected in the Audubon's 124th Christmas Bird Count that starts this coming week. Earlier this year there was a bit of a flurry in the news about the Audubon Society changing it's name. It decided not to, but they are going to
Hello Science Lovers and Shoppers, and Happy Birthday Ed. I have not paid much attention to what is coming up on the calendar for awhile. Needless to say I had no idea t
Greetings SciFans, Remember the good old days when science had all the answers? Richard Whately declared “Phrenology is true as…the sun is now in the sky.” I remember (sort of) when the first
Hello SciSchmoozers, Well it has been a crazy week and I am going to have to just tease you with some various links that have provided some distraction from the news and life. It has been a challenging year and most people seem to want to get on to 2024. I love it when someone says they can’t wait until something completely out of there control happens! It’s not as if a new year will make any difference!! These are pretty crazy times with people be
Herb Masters Hello Curious Friends, Let’s get this started… It seems that AI is everywhere. Some see it as a threat and others see it as a promise… Earlier there the hot item was the smart phone. How about a "smart toilet" that analyzes your urine stream and fecal deposits while taking a picture of your anus for good measure? There is so much to learn at the
